Leonard Joseph Battcock - Passed peacefully away on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at home in the presence of his loving family, Leonard Joseph Battcock of St. John's, age 90 years. Predeceased by his parents Clement and Bridgette (Ryan) of Brigus South; brothers Michael (Mary deceased), John (Helen), Tom (Betty deceased) and sisters Anne Battcock-Reardon (Frank deceased) and Hannah Tracey (Mike). Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 67 years, Millie (Bailey), daughter Gloria (Bill Scott), sons Randy, Tony (Maureen) and Hal (Kim); 8 grandchildren Danice (Charlie Szabo), Andrew (Renee), Bill (Jamie-Lyn), Sarah, Mark (Jodi), Neal, Leonard and Haley; as well as 6 great grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn brother James (Phyllis deceased) and sisters Lucy Melvin (Rich deceased), Fidelis Walsh (Louis deceased) and Nellie O'Brien (Michael deceased); as well as many cousins, relatives and friends. A special thank you to family physician Dr. Percy Crocker, the Palliative Home Care Team and the Community Health Nurses for all their support and direction during the caring for Dad at home in his final weeks. Having retired in 1987 after 40 years with the St. John's Airport Fire Department Emergency Services, our father enjoyed a full, active life wintering in Florida and enjoying time with family and friends. By request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday, July 15 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery Forest Road. Eileen (Bunny) Best's website had his name as Raymond Leonard Battcock, same as his son. This is evidently incorrect as his obituary gives his name as Leonard Joseph Battcock and I am changing my records accordingly today.

Lucy Ann Melvin - Passed peacefully away at the Pentecostal Seniors Complex, Bay Roberts on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Lucy Ann Melvin, in her 95th year, originally from Bauline. Predeceased by her husband Richard and her infant son Richard Clement, her brothers Michael, John, Tom, Leonard, and her sisters Ann and Hannah. Leaving to mourn her son Gerard, his wife Genevieve and grandchildren Scott (Jacinta), Richard and her great-grandson Jaden. Her brother James Battcock, her sisters, Fidelis Walsh and Nellie O'Brien, her sisters-in-law Helen Battcock and Millie Battcock, special life-long friend and caregiver Elizabeth Carew, and a large circle of family and friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Pentecostal Seniors Complex for their special attention and care shown to Lucy during her stay. Resting at Ryan's Funeral Home in Bay Bulls with visitation on Wednesday February 4 from 2 pm - 9 pm and on Thursday February 5 from 11 am - 1 pm. Mass of the Christian Burial to take place at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, St. Michaels at 2 pm on Thursday, February 5, with Inurnment to follow at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Cementary. Flowers graciously accepted or a donation may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.
