Oct. 20, 2006 email from Harcourt (Buzz) Gardiner:

"My Wife was Gertrude Louise Mews is the adopted daughter of Len and Elizabeth Mews of St John's and the nautural daughter of Harold Tessier of St. John's and Violet Carter of Greenspond who was working as a young maid in the Tessier mansion. Harold's wife had been bedridden for years and was still alive when Gert was born. After the Tessier empire collapsed Harold and Vi who were living together moved to Bishop Street in Montreal. Gert was graduating as an RN from the Royal Victoria Hospital and her picture was on display a half block from Harold's residence. Gert started getting unsigned letters and finally a diamond pendant from Birks. She sent it back and it was returned with a letter asking her to meet with her birth parents. We were engaged and she asked me to go with her.

Harold always claimed there was a connection between the Carters of Greenspond and those of Ferryland who are married into earlier Tessiers. But I have never been able to find it in Newfoundland. This is why the extensive research on Carter. Carter is an occupational surname and as they came from different parts of England it is not likely there is any connection.
