Gertie Sesk - (August 20, 1947 - March 12, 2025) - It is with great sadness today we announce the passing of our sister Gertie Sesk at the age of 77. She passed peacefully away at St. Luke's Home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025
Gertie was the beloved daughter of James and Bridget Sesk, of Ferryland. She was predeceased by her loving parents, her brother Joe (Aggie), sister Philomena and friend Al Harvey.
She leaves to mourn her devoted brothers Robert Sesk with whom she resided, and he was dedicated to his visits at St. Luke's, and Alfred (Marie), loving sisters Anne Marie Wells (Dave) and Ida (Aus). Also leaving to mourn her nieces, Pamela Sesk, Sheryl Crane (David), Gillian Gardiner, Susan Murphy (Josh), along with nephews Kris Wells (Michelle), Sean Wells (Heather), Jamie Sesk (Amanda) and Blair Gardiner (Amber), great nieces, Melanie Hynes (Matt), Lyla Sesk, Abigaile Wells, Saoirse Wells and Siobhan Wells, great nephews Koby Hynes (Rochelle), Riley Sesk, Waylon Crane and Baby Murphy who will soon arrive.
Gertie was a dedicated primary teacher who loved children, and they loved her. Her students were part of her family, and she cared for each and everyone. When she retired, she went to work at the lighthouse picnics in Ferryland. There became Gertie's new favorite passion where she enjoyed many years of work and meeting new people. It was the highlight of her life. It was like a big family with her co-workers and her special students who worked there. She loved them all.
Herself and her brother Robert were dedicated walkers, and they were a common sight in Ferryland, stopping for a chat, welcoming tourists to the community and talking to any residents they met.
Special thanks to the dedicated staff at St. Luke's Home where she resided for two years. Your friendship, kindness and care will never be forgotten. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Billy Doyle who visited her at the home. She loved his visits.
Cremation has taken place as per Gertie's request. A graveside service will take place for family, at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ferryland at a later date.

Sesk, James - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex, Monday May 19th, 1986, age 76 years, Predeceased by his wife Bridie on March 29, 1986, devoted father and husband. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories three sons, Joe and wife Aggie at Aquaforte, Alfred and wife Marie at Ferryland, Robert at home, three daughters: Ann Marie and husband Dave Wells at Gander, Ida and husband Aus Gardiner at Conche and Gertie at home. Also six grandchildren, Kris, Sean, Pamela, Jamie, Sheryl and Gillian, also a large circle of relatives and friends. Remains resting at Fahey's Funeral Home. Funeral mass on Thursday May 22nd from Holy Trinity Church, Ferryland. Internment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery Ferryland.
