MOSS
On May 26, 1994, George William (Geordie) Moss, longtime rancher in Birch Island passed away. Geordie was born in Armstrong, BC on February 25, 1922. He lived his first few years on the family homestead in Mossleigh, Alberta. He came to Birch Island with his parents and family in 1929.
Geordie attended school in Birch Island, then went to the Olds School of Agriculture in Olds, Alberta. He graduated in 1940.
He joined the Canadian armed forces (Ordinance) in 1942, and served overseas, returning to Birch Island in June of 1946.
He was a volunteer driver, and later Unit Chief, of the ambulance service (North Thompson) for about 20 years, retiring in the 1970's.
Geordie loved to play ball throughout his youth and adult years. He pitched for the Birch Island Yellowjackets over a span of thirty years. His favourite recreations over many years were square dancing, and the bridge club.
Geordie is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Lois; his two sons Dan (Marilynn) and Dennis (Linda); four grandchildren Curtis, Michael, Bobbi, and Kelly; and his great grandchildren.
He also leaves four sisters: Lillian Addison of Kamloops, Isabel (Jim) MacLennan of Raft River, Theo Irvine of Birch Island, Margaret (Fred) Donley of Bowser, BC and one brother Jim (Millie) Moss of Red Deer, Alta. He was predeceased by his parents, George Oliver and Glenna Moss, and by his sister, Bessie McFadden.
He is, and will be, sadly missed by his loving family and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held by the lake on the Moss Ranch in Birch Island on Wednesday, June 1, 1994 at 3:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart Fund or Charity of choice, would be appreciated. (The Times)
