This is the second of two children of this couple named Archibald. Clearly the first died either at birth or shortly afterwards.

The transcript of the 1851 census for this family is particularly bad with the names of both parents misspelled. I believe that there is also an error in referring to a Richd Shannon age 23 which should be Archd Shannon age 23 and therefore I am indicating here that he appears on this census at home with his parents.

In the household of Margaret Shannon in Greenock on the 1841 Census are two younger women name Shannon - Betsy and Isabella - who are too old to be her daughters. I am assuming these three are sisters and none married and they continued to live together after the death of their parents.

On the 1851 Census (viewed on Ancestry.com as a transcript), Betsy (Bestsey) is living as the head of a household (no sign of other two sisters) on an annuity never having married with a number of people living with her who are most likely relatives as well as a young servant girl. The younger woman mentioned as "Levingston" is clearly her niece by Jesse.

I am going a bit out on a limb here by making Margaret Shannon a daughter of the family of Alexander Shannon and Margaret Miller but it seems justified for three reasons:
1. the location is right
2. the name was not common
3. she has a young man living in her household by the same name as the man who married her presumed sister, Jesse Shannon, in Newfoundland, Charles Livingston(e). I believe that this young man is her nephew.
