Richard and Roberta Sullivan family tree: "Miss Polly took her life one morning off the side of a bridge. Her Jim was going to a home for the aged, and she was all alone. She went to see her friend Gladys Deveraux and said "Jim is sick. I want you to keep my pocket book, I will be back in a while". This was at 4:00 am. At 8:00 am she was found at the bottom of the bridge, her coat on the rail above."

I do not know the date when the above story was written nor when I received it but it now comes full circle today whene I read in Dad Morry's 1945 diary the following:

22 MONDAY (295-70) Wind West. Fine. Got off 24 quintals of fish. And old Resident, Polly Sullivan, committed suicide by drowning in Spout River this morning. She had had a hard time of it lately with her husband Jim who was paralyzed in one side the past five months and was worn out for want of sleep & rest.

23 TUESDAY (296-69) Wind S. W. Cloudy. Dug spuds most of the day. Attended Polly Sullivan's funeral. No fish spread. It's an awful hard year to do anything with fish or hay.

24 WEDNESDAY (297-68) Cloudy. Jim Sullivan was brought out to the Infirmary to day. A sad ending to a long eventful life. Letter from Gladys saying she was not coming now til Reg comes. We were disappointed. No letters from Bill or Pat or no talk of them getting home. They are fed up with it and want to get home.
