Served in World War I; Regimental No 4/2001 sapper. Left New Zaland 4 March 1916 with the 10th Reinforcements on the Aparima and went initialy to Eygpt arriving there 10th April. Sailed from Alexandria 10th May for France and arrived in Marseille about the 20th May. Served in various parts of France, Belgium and Germany in the Engineers up to 23rd February 1919 when he sailed from Le Havre to England on 23rd Febraury; and then sailed from Liverpool on 28th March for New Zealand where he arrived on 11th May on the Northumberland.
Wedding reception held at 'The Kiosk', Mount Eden, Auckland.
Left a Will dated 20 April 1967. Probate was granted for $5,520.00 (bank account $4,800 and life insurances (2) $720. Will indicated that should wife Lillian predecease me estate to be shared between Harry Davis Smith, Nelson Smith, Margaret Amy Sands, Irene Vid Hutchinson, Teresa Nelson, Eileen Townes, Rita Ryan, Millie Walker-Richards and May Crowle.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Marys Catholic Church , Onewa Rd, Northcote, tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11 am, the funeral then leaving for the North Shore Cemetery. Rosary at the church tonight (Tuesday) at 7.
