From Edward Robert's appendix to Peter Cashin's memoirs, "My Fight for Newfoundland":
Crosbie, (Sir) John C. (1876-1932)
A native of Brigus, Crosbie began his business career in St. John's shortly
before his twentieth birthday. He built a large and successful enterprise over
the next few years, as a fish exporter and in several other fields. Unsuccessful
in his first attempt to enter the House ofAssembly, in 1904, he was elected
for Bay de Verde as the People's Party candidate in 1908 and 1909, joining
the Morris Administration as a Minister without Portfolio. He was re-
elected in Bay de Verde in 1913. He served as Minister of Shipping in the
Lloyd and Cashin Ministries. Returned as MHA for Port de Grave in 1919,
he was appointed KBE later that year. Defeated in Bay de Verde in 1923, he
returned to the House in 1924 for St. John's West and became Minister of
Finance in the Monroe Administration. He retired from politics in 1928.
