Obituary:John Joseph Carroll Date de décès: 4 mai 2017 It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather great-grandfather, brother and friend, John Joseph Carroll at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, May 4, 2017 aged 90 years. Predeceased by his parents James and Catherine; his daughter Isabel; son Wayne; sisters Annie, Margaret Cadigan (Patrick); brothers Walter, Richard (Mary), Patrick and James; brothers-in-law Howard Morry, James Hickey, Peter Hickey, Stephen, Patrick, Frances, Richard (Joan), Walter and John Dyer and George Gaulton. Leaving to mourn with many beautiful memories his wife of 63 years, Alice (Dyer); son Walter (Bunny); daughter Sharon Ralph (Terry) and Elizabeth Whitten; grandchildren Mark, Melissa Harris (Don) Matthew (Katie), Shane (Sandra), Shannon (Michael), Courtney and Bradley Ralph; great-grandchildren Brianna, Olivia, Halle, Autumn and Keegan; his sisters Bride Hickey, Mary Morry and Catherine Hickey; sisters-in-law Gladys Carroll, Mary Gaulton, Margaret Horlock, Gladys Dyer, Anita Dyer, Mary Angela Dyer. Also Blanche Dyer, Shirley Green and Alphia Hogan; brother-in-law Michael Dyer, and all his extended family and friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, Torbay on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to take place on Monday May 8, 2017 from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Outer Cove at 9:30 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. Joan Dyer - (August 25, 1925 - August 05, 2021) - Passed peacefully away at the L. A. Miller Centre's Palliative Care Unit on August 5th, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 96 years. Predeceased by her husband Howard. Leaving to mourn her sons: Kevin, Keith (Debbie) and Colin (Marie); daughter Carolyn; grandchildren: Kimberley, Tracey, Mitchell and Kathleen; sisters: Sr. Marie (Presentation Convent), Maggie and Anna; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Originally from Cape Broyle, Joan was known for her love of travel, golden oldies and Irish/Nfld music, and chocolate and Irish whisky. She loved spending time at the family cabin, picking blueberries and sharing her knitted and rughooked gifts. She loved Ireland and was fortunate enough to visit there again for her 90th birthday. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, and brought a joyful attitude to family encounters, often sharing stories of days gone by. We will miss her dearly.
Many thanks to the staff at the L. A. Miller Centre and Community Health for making her last days comfortable and peaceful. A very special thank-you to Dr. Sandi Ennis for her many years of kindness.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with covid protocols a private funeral service with immediate family will be held at Caul's Chapel on Monday, August 9th, 2021 at 11 a.m with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those who wish to attend the funeral service virtually, please visit <https://vimeo.com/583852851>. Extended family and friends are welcome to attend the committal service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VOWR 900 Radio, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society.
