From Rick Morry's family history:

"Also invariably present at Morry family events were Kay and Bill Devereux, children of William Devereaux the son of Mary Devereaux's brother John. They lived together single in Victoria for the whole of their adult lives. They had an older brother Hugh who also lived in Victoria, married and with several children. Curiously, Hugh never accompanied his siblings to Seattle for Morry events."

Further information from Rick pertaining to this family line and its remote connection to the Cantwells of Newfoundland:

Our connection to the Cantwells is a bit confusing. We are related by marriage and not by blood. As simple as I can put it, John Roderick Gillis son of Roderick Gillis had a daughter Ann Mary Gillis. He took her to the Klondike with him but decided that was no place for a young lady. He thus took her to Victoria (when she was12 or so) where his sister Mary Gillis lived. She had married William Devereaux who was the son of my grandfather's mother Mary Devereaux's brother John Devereaux. William Devereaux was thus my grandfather's first cousin.

Ann Mary attended nursing school in Victoria where she met and married Charles Stafford and they moved to Vancouver. Their daughter Anna Frances Stafford (known as "Bib") married Francis Paul Cantwell ("Paul") in Vancouver. They had three children, Mike being the eldest. Our families were always close. Paul Cantwell was best man at my father's wedding. Bib Cantwell was a lifelong friend of my aunts Rose and Ellen.

As for the Cantwells, they say that they are connected with the lighthouse folks. Paul Cantwell moved to Vancouver when he was five where his CPR employee father was transferred from Winnipeg. I do not know how they originally migrated from Newfoundland.

010720:

There is some doubt that his middle name was Roderick. This never appears in any formal document I have seen. He is generally referred to simply as John Gillis though in one instance I have seen it as John R. Gillis.

William Devereaux's wife Mary was a Gillis. She had a brother John Roderick Gillis whose wife had died in childbirth. He went to the Klondike, at first taking his daughter Ann Mary with him but when she got older sent her to the Devereaux cousins in Victoria. Ann Mary's daughter Frances Stafford (called "Bib") married Paul Cantwell. The Cantwells raised their family in Vancouver, B.C. and were the Morrys' closest Newfoundland connections. Paul Cantwell was best man for George Joseph Morry when he married. Bib was lifelong friends with George William's daughters Rose and Ellen."
