His biography in the 2019 Come Home Year Book lists his children and these do not include a daughter named Sheila as I show here. It says that Sheila joined the family when she was 12 years old. This is because she was not a child of this couple. She was Bernard's cousin and was raised by him when her real parents died, according to Laura Morry Williams in her book "Over the Fence", but she does not give the names of her birth parents.

Bernard Kavanagh - (July 21, 1936 - January 4, 2024) - A prominent businessman from Ferryland has passed away. It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Dad, Bernard Kavanagh, age 87, on January 4, 2024.
Predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Clara (nee Hanlon), parents Elizabeth & Alphonsus, grandson Wesley Ryan, brothers, Leo, Junior, and Bill, sisters Evelyn and Dolly, his brothers-in-law Bill and Hubert Hanlon, sisters-in-law Annie Hanlon and Mary Keough, his nieces Ann Marie Power, Tina Kenny O'Brien, and Wally Anne Sweeney, and Nephew Kevin Power, son-in-law Calvin Kenny, and lifelong friends Audrey and Steve Whitten.
Leaving to mourn his friend and close companion Harriet Mahon, his 7 daughters Sheila (Gerald), Carol Ann (Gerald), Debbie (Perry), Pam (Doug), Ruby, Della, and Rosalind (Herman); his sister Sadie (Ron); 17 grandchildren Darrell (Shalyn), Nicole (Jamie), Gail, Gerry (Danielle), Joshua (Leah), Colin (Bekah), Christopher (Heather), Ashley (Robbie), Jason (Maria), Carolyn (Warren), Bryan (Tracy), Brandon, Shauna (Andrew), Shalyn (Eilidh), Bernard (Taylor), Bradley (Kyla), Daniel (Megan); 16 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters; his sisters-in-law Doris Kavanagh, Shirley Kavanagh, Gladys Linegar (Albert), and Jocelyn Clark, brothers-in-law Freeman (Agnes), Ron and Arch Hanlon, and the Whitten family.
Due to the truly overwhelming number of family members, friends, and coworkers that Dad had and made throughout his life, it would be impossible to name everyone, however, he was, as are we, so grateful you were all a part of his life.
Special thanks to Doctors Melvin, Connors, Fagan and Morry, Michelle Rossiter, Katie Boland, Kim Goodridge and staff at Alderwood Estates in Witless Bay.
Our Dad was a well respected local businessman, who, for over 60 years, served the Southern Shore, from Trepassey to St. John's with businesses in trucking, wholesale, grocery and restaurants. He continued to operate the "Million Dollar View" Restaurant into his 87th year and took great pride in it.
Dad was a hardworking man who employed many people in the area. Especially his secretary for 38 1/2 years, Anne Marie Sullivan, who always kept him on the straight and narrow. He always said that he was so successful because he had the best workers. Over the years, Dad was known to have helped many to set up their own businesses. It gives us great comfort to hear the stories of kindness and generosity he gave to others. We are very proud to call him our Dad and will miss him forever.

Visitation will take place at Fahey's Funeral Home, Fermeuse on Sunday, January 7th, 2:00-9:00 pm and Monday, January 8th, 2:00-9:00 pm. Funeral mass to be held on Tuesday, January 9th at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church (Ferryland) at 11:00 am.

Medical:
In his early years he was a sickly boy having his appendix, adenoids and tonsils removed. Broke his leg at the age of 12. Contracted TB at 14 and suffered a collapsed lung.

Suffered a heart attack in 1996 and was diagnosed with diabetes about this time.

Suffered congestive heart failure in 2004 and was fitted with a pacemaker. The same happened again in 2017. 5189

Predeceased by her husband John, 1992; sons; Steve, 1998; and grandson Junie, 1999. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughter Mary Essie (Jim Lynch), Bellevue, Trinity Bay; three sons; Doug (Doris) and Chris (Sheila), Calvert, Eddie (Mona), Red Lake, Northern Ontario; one sister Essie Rossiter, Calvert; one brother Mike Kavanagh (Kay), Florida; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
