Michael Condon Kearney (1811 - March 4, 1885) was a shipbuilder and political figure in Newfoundland. He represented Ferryland in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1865 to 1869. He was born in Ferryland. Kearney operated ship yards on Conception Bay and at St. John's. He died at St. John's in 1885. Kearney was known as Newfoundland's greatest ship builder. The most famous ships that were under his construction were the Ida, the Shamrock and the Gauntlet."
From Find a Grave 020922:
Kearney was known as Newfoundland's greatest ship builder. The most famous ships that were under his construction were the Ida, the Shamrock, the Gauntlet and the Thomas Ridley, pictured here. "Thomas Ridley", brig, official number 10534, gross tonnage 164, was built in 1852 at Carbonear, in the shipyard of merchant John Rorke, and named after one of the partners in the Liverpool firm of Harrison, Ridley and Company for whom Rorke had worked in his youth.
The Kearney Tourist Chalet in Harbour Grace was built in 1995 and is designed as a replica of the Beacon Light, erected at Point of Beach in 1850. The Beacon Light was built by Michael Condon Kearney, after whom the tourist chalet has been named. The Town Seal of Harbour Grace remembers Kearney's original lighthouse.
