Obituary
Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre after a long and courageous battle with Cancer.
Predeceased by his parents: Lionel and Evelyn King; father and mother-in-law: Stanley and Laura Piercey.
Leaving to mourn with fond and cherished memories his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Mary (nee Piercey); his children whom he dearly adored, daughters: Karen Morry (Keith), Lori Tobin (Rod); son Duane; his grandchildren whom he worshipped: Shannon, Erin, Liam, Spencer, Brianna and Brandon; brother Dr. James King (Marilyn); sister Lorna King; brother-in-law Stanley Piercey; as well as a large circle of family and friends.
Thank you to Dr. Armstrong, the entire team at the Cancer Clinic and the staff at The Palliative Care Unit for your support, professionalism and compassion through this journey. The King family also sends a special thank you to Dr. Lesley Manning for taking the time to provide a level of care for Stan that was above and beyond, you were the anchor that helped the family weather the storm.
Stan lived in Mount Pearl but his true sanctuary was the summer home he and Mary spent a lifetime building in Western Bay. It is there that they both enjoyed the vacation time when their family was young and in later years the solitude and relaxation as empty nesters. It was a little piece of Paradise and Stan took great pride in having built it. Stan had a very active social life and a multitude of friends throughout the province who will miss him at the parties, card games and hunting trips. Cremation has already taken place and due to COVID-19 restrictions burial and celebration of life will be held on a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted in Harold's name to First United Church, Mount Pearl or The Gathering Place. Visit www.barretts.ca to leave a message of condolence to the family.
God looked around his garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best. 591

It is not clear if the wedding took place at St. Thomas or the Cathedral as it is recorded in both registers. When this happened it usually meant that the marriage was performed at St. Thomas and in this instance since he was in the Royal Navy at the time and this was the garrison church I am making that assumption.
