170723:Children: 1. James Stirling
It is not clear if the wedding took place at St. Thomas or the Cathedral as it is recorded in both registers. When this happened it usually meant that the marriage was performed at St. Thomas and in this instance since he was in the Royal Navy at the time and this was the garrison church I am making that assumption.
Notes
General:
170723:
Note that apparently this branch of the family used the spelling "Sterling" rather than "Stirling". However this is simply based upon the spelling in his will which almost certainly was not written out by him. His name appears as "Stirling" on the transcript of his marriage on NGB website but there too that is certainly a transcript and not how he may have spelled his own name.
180723:
According to Charles (Charlie) Stirling, who is about to complete a full family history of the Stirling family of Newfoundland:
"The spelling of the name Stirling and Sterling is often used interchangeably. For instance, I have seen Dr. William Archibald's own handwritten signature with both spellings."
