The actual date of their marriage is somewhat confusing. It is given as 24 August 1806 in Giles Muir's book and indeed that seems to be confirmed but this sketchy transcript on the Newfoundland's Grand Banks website:

LEWIS - LOCKYER Evening Telegram November 18, 1922 (Saturday) Trinity. ... 1805. John Lewis, of Christ Church, Hants, and Tamar Lockyer of Bay de Verde.

There is no explanation given for posting this wedding notice in the Evening Telegram more than 100 years after the event. It isn's an attempt to legitimise the births of the children of this couple since several of them were christened before this date and thus it was well known to the church in Bay de Verde and Trinity where all outport C of E events were also posted that they were not married when a number of their children were conceived and born. This was not unusual in outports in those days because ministers so seldom made an appearance. What is odd is that they would take their children to be christened when an itinerant minister was in the harbour but would not bother to have him marry them.

The birth date in Bay de Verde as it appears on NGB website and as given in Giles' book is actually a baptismal date. The church record does not give the actual birth date. It could be as long before as 1800. In many cases such long lapses between birth and christening happened in Bay de Verde since the minister did not visit there regularly.
