Notes from David Stevens:


In WW2 applied to enlist as a pilot in No. 1 Squandron RAAF. He was refused pilot training so enlisted in the RAF as a Wireless Operator/Gunner and was shot down in the Mediterranean Sea while on anti-shipping patrol. Rescued after about three days and recovered from his wounds in Malta.
