There was only one family in which the father was William Luke and his wife was named Mary so I am assigning her to that family, though I do not know when and where she was born.

220108: Robert Luke shows up in several baptisms at St. Saviour and is listed as a tinman. Since this fits into the family of John Luke and sons I am making the assumption that he is one of them even though he never shows up on a census with them. It is possiblle he was the eldest and had moved to his own house before any Census records were made.

I realised today when I discovered his burial record stating his age as 74 in 1871 that he could not possibly be a son of John Luke and Sarah Wollcott. Instead, I now believe he was a brother, named after his deceased brother of the same name, as had already been done several times in that family evidently. So therefore I am severing him from the family of John and Sarah and instead placing him in the previous generation as son of William and Mary Luke. Since their profession is said to be the same, it makes sense that Robert and John should be brothers. This is speculative and not proved at this time.

I note in the 1841 Census that not all the children I have assigned to this family appear on that census, and there are also a couple of children I will have to add because I did not previously have them. I suspect that there may have been some mixing up of families on my part that will eventually need to be sorted out if possible.
