I was just looking at a 1913 marriage record of one of my great aunts from my Luscombe side online. My great aunt Clara May (Luscombe) Snow, I remember aunt Clara very well as she did not pass on until 1975. She was fairly storied as she and her husband had moved on to New York City for most of their lives, the husband, Will Snow, who was listed as an Engineer on the marriage record, he passed on in New York around 1966 or so, at which time aunt Clara moved back to St. John's. Aunt Clara and Uncle Will had been a childless couple, living on Manhattan Island and my grand parents took a number of spring vacations to visit with them through the 1940's and 1950's. When my grand parents visited they often went to uncle Will's brothers place up in the Adirondacks all together for a week or more. Despite that uncle Will and Aunt Clara were quite well to do, she chose to work as an Au pair down in Manhattan for years. Through my mothers childhood, her aunt Clara was always able to send hand me down dresses from the children she was charged with from New York. apparently still very fashionable stuff here in St. John's. I had not been aware that uncle Will was an Engineer, until I just now saw the marriage register. My mother had said he and his brother were partners in a construction company, but she hinted in some ways that there was some questionable activities in their involvements, where by my grandfather had to be careful in his association to them on the basis of his government job here in Newfoundland. I don't believe my mother knew anything more than that obscurity for her own part. Just a vibe she recalled from the years that my grandparents used to go to NY.

KELSEY (Luscombe), Veronica Sylvia Veronica Sylvia - February 17th, 1931 - September 23, 2010. Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on September 23rd, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, Sylvia Kelsey, aged 79 years. Predeceased by parents John Payne and Clara Luscombe, brother Jack F. Luscombe, her former husband Douglas R. Kelsey and friends Beth Burke and Marguerite Pelley. Leaving to mourn children: Douglas J. (Ginette Louth), Kimberley (Albert Dunphy) and Christopher; siblings: Agnes (Ed) Richards, Marjorie Reid and William (Vicki) Luscombe; grandchildren: Shannon M. Kelsey and Alexander Dunphy, as well as a wide circle of cherished friends including Lorraine Laite, Iris Ford, Joan Barron, Art and Kay Escott, Edie and Charl Phillips, June Titford and Jean Kelsey. Sylvia had an enduring faith in her church and placed great importance on respecting others and treating people kindly, often putting others ahead of herself, especially her children. Sylvia was an avid member of the cathedral choir and faithfully listened to her hymns on VOWR radio Sunday evenings. Sylvia attended Bishop Spencer College and spent many years happily typing out reports and letters as a medical stenographer at The S.A. Grace General Hospital and The Medical consultants practice. The family wishes to thank the kindness and professionalism of the medical staff in the Emergency and 7th floor East departments of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's. At Sylvia's request cremation has taken place. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday, September 25th and 26th, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Funeral service to take place from The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Monday, September 27th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at The Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.
