Circumstances of Casualty

"Died of Wounds"

On the morning of October 28th 1917, he was in charge of a pack train of about 200 mules, laoding ammunition at "B" Dump, Oxford Road. About 11:00 o'clock a number of Gotha bombing planes came over and bombed the dump and vicinity. Lietenant McLea who was on the road near the dump was hit by one of the bombs, which shattered all the lower part of his body. He was carried to a dressing station, from there evacuated to No. 8 Canadian Field Ambulance, where he died shortly afterwards.

160621: NB I have no proof that this person is a son of Kenneth McLea and Elizabeth Brine except that he appears on the 1841 Census living with Kenneth's widowed mother in Greenock along with three other children all of whom would appear to be his children, though their dates and places of birth are all wrong on the census. For now I am placing Patrick in this family pending clarification even though his nominal date of birth from the 1841 Census is before Kenneth and Elizabeth were married. This is possibly an error and he was their first child who died young.
