The owner of the Ancestry.com family tree from which I have taken much of the material on the McVicar family (ebc4231945) claims that they emigrated to New York in 1775 and presumably returned later to Scotland but there is no actual evidence provided to support this contention so I am excluding it for now from my family tree. 2524

160621:
Note that I have made an interpretation of the relationships of those shown on the 1841 Census that attempts to assign the children in the household. I have tried to make them fit as the children of Kenneth McLea and Elizabeth Brine. But the name of one (Patrick) has never been seen as one of theirs before and the age of one (Robert) is nothing near the age of the child of that name who we know was their child. My feeling is that they did have a son named Patrick very early in their marriage who died after this census and they also had a son named Robert who also died young and a second son was later named Robert in his honour. But this is all pure conjecture since the census does not indicate any relationship for the four children.
I have assumed that neither Daniel nor Catherine are the parents and that they were both single. We know this to be the case for her from the 1851 and 1861 census. But it is possible that Daniel was married, that his wife died and these are their children.

Fanny died a year later, and George married Margaret Ryan, a Roman Catholic. The Ferryland CE records show only a baptism for George and Margaret's first child, James. Other known children were likely baptised as Roman Catholics.]

Notes
General:
290112: I am not absolutely certain that this George Mead is the father of Charles and James Meade. Despite the difference in spelling of the surname, however, the names of the witnesses at the marriage of George Mead and Fanny Mayo and their presence in Ferryland at the appropriate time make a strong circumstantial argument for he being the father of these boys. If so, they would be his sons by a later marriage than that with Fanny Mayo as she died before they were born.

David Wells email 301106: There are three Jim Meades I am aware off. One is probably a brother to Charles (this is a guess) not included in the Meade and Barnable genealogy reports because I have no proof he is, even slim, other than his existence in Charles' time period.
On the strength of the fact that this James married an Esther Barnable and they lived in the same time and place as Charles Meade and the two families intermarried quite a bit, I am taking a chance and assigning this James as a brother of Charles.
060114:
After much deliberation and checking of records of marriage and births, I have concluded that there is an error in the transcript of the baptism of Stephen Joseph meade which gives his father's name as Stephen, It should be James. because of this error I, and others including Don Lopes, had two husbands for Esther Barnable, James (for whom a marriage record exists) and Stephen (for whom one does not exist). Therefore today I have merged this false Stephen into James Meade and thereby have made him the rightful father of both Peter James Meade and Stephen Joseph Meade.
