090311: It appears that the Mary McCafferty living with Charles and his parents and children in the 1901 census is truly his sister and not his wife. His wife may have already been dead by then. In any event she was surely dead by the time of the 1911 census when he was listed as a widower and had his mother, but not his father (presumably dead) and children living with him, but no sign of sister Mary. Its a bit confusing as to whether the Mary in question was his wife or sister. She is listed as a daughter of Hugh and Sarah on the 1901 Census but this may be an error.

210310: The matter was resolved to my satisfaction by downloading a copy of the 1901 Census for this family from the Irish Family History Foundation today. There it clearly shows that the Mary in question was the wife of Charles, not his sister.

However there is still very much doubt as to whether she was from Donegal or Pennsylvania and whether she was born about 1866 as the 1901 Irish Census suggests or about 1869, as suggested by the 1870/80 US Censuses that appear to represent her family. Needs more work.
