Kathleen "Kay" LeMessurier
October 6, 1953 - December 18, 2022
Obituary

Kay (Kathleen) LeMessurier (Murphy). Born into a large loving family on October 6, 1953, our earthly angel has passed from this life. Our hearts are breaking. Kay is predeceased by her father and mother Francis & Sadie (Sarah) Murphy and son Mark LeMessurier, brother Frank and parents-in-law Cyril & Daisy LeMessurier. Leaving to mourn are her adoring husband and soulmate Mac, son Kirk (Bryan), daughter Karen (Ian), grandsons Luke & Jake LeMessurier and their mother Michelle. Also brothers and sister, Bill (Cass), Betty (Charlie Byrne), Dave (Jean), Terry (Darlene), Bren (Tammy) and sister-in-law Linda; and Bob LeMessurier (Georgia), Gloria Coombs (Richard, deceased), Craig LeMessurier (Dawn); loved by a host of devoted nieces and nephews.

From the Mayor Avenue neighbourhood of her youth to the Halls of Presentation and Holy Heart Schools, to the Kiwanis Music Festival or the Arts & Culture Centre stage, Kay's light shone for all to see. An accomplished Soprano, she could charm birds out of trees and more importantly impress Sister Gabriel and Nish Rumboldt. Her business and leadership achievements were numerous, including building a successful network of private business colleges throughout Atlantic Canada and service on the board of directors and vice-chair of Canada Post. Kay and Mac also served as aides-de-camp to Lt. Gov. the Hon. John C. Crosbie.

Kay was a voracious reader, passionate gardener and along with Mac built a Newfoundland Pony "ranch" in Blaketown which, like their Derby Place home was a welcome oasis for many visitors. Kay and Mac were world travelers and saw all four corners of the earth meeting with friends and family along the way. Kay lived a very full life and that is what we will remember.

Kay will most be missed for her dedication to close and extended family and compassion for her fellow human beings. To paraphrase Charles Dickens (a favourite author), she made mankind her business. There are a thousand acts of kindness that each of us remember and a thousand more performed with thoughtful anonymity. She was the rock of our families.

We would like to express our eternal gratitude to Drs Stender, Leonard, Khraishi, Vidyasankar and Saap and to the courageous nurses and staff of the Health Sciences Emergency, 4 North B and 4 South A for their unlimited care and compassion. You are a credit to your professions. May God give you strength to carry out your work.

Kay loved flowers and was very charitable. Some flowers would be appreciated as would donations to the Gathering Place, Choices for Youth or a charity of your choice.

This is just so long for now Kay-Kay, we will see you on the other side. Now you can rest in peace.

Cremation has taken place. Visitations at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's Tuesday December 20 and Wednesday 21 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. A memorial service will take place 10:30 am Thursday 22 at Barrett's Chapel.
