Brett's funeral service will be held in St Lukes Presbyterian Church, 130 Remuera Rd, Remuera, at 2 pm tomorrow (Wednesday), the funeral then leaving for Purewa Lawn Cemetery. Mr Brett Alan Joseph Needham, well known in harness racing circles, died yesterday in Auckland after a short illness. He was aged 39.
Mr Needham, in 1983, started his own company, today known as Needham, Heatley and Partners Ltd, insurance brokers based at Manukau city.
The company is insurer to the New Zealand Standard Breeders' Association, the Holstein-Friesan Association and the New Zealand Floriculture Association.
The Needham Heatley Juvenile Stakes at Cambridge won recently by Montana Vance, has received company sponsorship for several years.
Mr Needham was former vice-president at the North Island branch of the New Zealand Standardbred Breeders' Association and was also on the association's national council.
As a standardbred owner he was a partner in the talented but ill-fated pacer Atomic Dough. Another horse he held an interest in was Soky's Beau.
Mr Needham is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.
