ARRIVAL OF THE SHIP OCEAN MAIL
The ship Ocean Mail anchored off the North Hrad yesterday from London. The following is the report of the voyage: "We sailed from gravesend on sunday, August 15, with 170 government emigrants and five cabin passengers. On the 17th of August, when about 15 miles below Portland, in a dense fog, collided with the Italian barque Partitee, we lost of jib boom and starboard anchor - no other damage to us; the barque losing her mizen mast, and other damage unknown, she wanted no asistance. took our departure the Linard on 20th of August. Had very light favourable winds to the equator, with fine weather. Crossed the same on the 19th September, 27-56w. Sighted Cape Branco on the 24th september, and were tacking off and on the coast for four days, the wind blowing from SSE, the wearther fine and breeze moderate. On the 1st of October we boarded the Highflyer, from Melbourne to London, 49 days out, in lat. 18.5S, long 30-35 W, all well. Sighted Trinidad on the 2nd of October. On the 20th October crossed the meridian of cape of Good Hope in 45 S. Had a strong westerly gale on the 23rd, with heavy sea running; on the following day, 24th, we passed tow icebergs, and on the 26th, in lat 44-30S, long 48e, passed three icebergs and some field ice. Ran down the eastingg on the parallel of 45 to 46S. On the 16th November exchanged signals with the British barque Damascus, from London to Sydney, 82 days out, all well, in latitude 43-50S, longitude 149-30E, then had moderate favourable weather.
Sighted the Three Kings on tt 22nd November, at 4 a.m., and had a favourable breeze running down the coast. The pilot, Mr. James, came on board at 1.30 p.m. ' The health of the passngers during the voyage was uniformily good, only two deaths having taken place, and these of newly born infants. Four births too place. Mr. Thomas Nassey Harding, F.R.C.S. has come out, as Surgeon-Superintendent, and many of his friends in Auckland will be glad to welcome him back. The vessell was boarded towards evening by Dr Philson and the Immigration Officer, and the passengers having been inspected, and no disease among them found, a clean bill of health was granted. The immigrants will be landed this morning at 10 o'clock, and conveyed to the Barracks, where they will be open for engagements, which judging from their apperance will not be difficult of obtaining. The ship will come up the harbour this morning.
The following is a list of the immigrants on board:- James Kelly was listed under the heading "Single Men".

Lived with his brother-in-law Patrick O'Rourke at some stage prior to his marriage to Mary PHELAN.

Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. James Kelly
The golden wedding was celebrated yesterday of Mr. and Mrs. James Kelly of Commercial Road, Grey Lynn. They were married at St. Benedict's Church on June 2, 1886, and yesterday, on their golden wedding day, both were fit and well and entered wholeheartedly into the fun of the celebrations. Mr. Kelly was born at Rathcoffey, County Kildare, Ireland, on November 24, 1847, and arrived in New Zealand on the full-rigged ship Ocean Mail in 1878, on his 28th birthday. He worked on many of Auckland's earliest buildings as a plasterer and retired from business some years ago. Mrs. Kelly's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Phelan were in Bendigo at the time of the gold rush and there Mary was born on February 4, 1859. While she was still young they visited Ireland, but of that visit and of the subsequent voyage to New Zealand occupying six months Mrs. Kelly remembers little. There were nine children of the marriage, six daughters and three sons, and there are fourteen grandchildren.

Yesterday morning most of the family assisted at a thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Monsignor Holbrook at St. Joseph's, Grey Lynn, and all the children and most of the grandchildren were present at the celebrations held at the home in the evening when the health of the couple, proposed by a son-in-law, Mr, J. Nelson, was drunk. The family includes Mesdames Franklin Smith, G. Ryan, H. Crowle, J. Crowle (Auckland), Mrs. J. Townes (Waharoa), and Miss. M. Kelly and Messrs. Joseph Kelly, Edmund Kelly and Gregory Kelly.

Golden Weddings
KELLY - PHELAN - On June 2, 1856 at St. Benedict's Church, by Rev. Father Downey, James, fourth son of the late Peter Kelly, of Rathcoffey, County Kildare, Ireland, to Mary, eldest daughter of the late James and Julia Phelan, of Bendigo, Australia, and Arch Hill, Auckland. Present address: 3 Commercial Road, Grey Lynn.

Obituary Notice Mr James Kelly
The death occurred at his residence in Grey Lynn on Saturday of Mr James Kelly, in his 91st year. Mr Kelly was born in County Kildare, Ireland and arrived at Auckland on his 28th birthday in the sailing ship Ocean Mail. As a plasterer he worked on many of Auckland's early buildings. Mr and Mrs Kelly celebrated ther golden wedding two years ago. He is survived by Mrs Kelly and by six daughters and two sons.

Obituary Notice:
The Late Mr. James Kelly (Photograph Shown)
On September 17, after a short illness, there passed to his eternal reward Mr. Kames Kelly, a venerable and well known figure of the Grey Lynn parish, Auckland.

Mr. James Kelly was born at Rathcoffy, County Kildare, Ireland, in 1847. He lived in Ireland until his departure for New Zealan by the saailing ship Ocean Mail, and arrived here on his twenty-seventh birthday. In 1886 he married, and two years ago he and his wife, who still survives him, celebrated their golden wedding. Deceased was a hard-working man throughout his life and as a plasterer was employed on some of the best known of Auckland's buildings. He was the oldest parishioner of St. Joseph's, and had been intimately associated with the founding of the parish and all its developments. When the Holy Name Society was established in Grey Lynn he was one of the first to give in his name, just as he had been one of the first to enter the Sacred Heart Sodality many years before.

His illness was of short duration, and he went to God fortified with all the rites of Holy Church. His family, who had always been given the best example in family life, had the great consolation of assisting at a most edifying death.
Requim Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Grey Lynn, prior to the interment at Waikumete Cemetery, where the prayers at the graveside were said by the Right Rev. Msgr. Holbrook, who had entertained the greatest friendship for Mr. Kelly. Deceased is survived by his wife, six daughters, three sons and fifteen grandchildren, to whom the deepest sympathy is extend.
