I am investigating the possibility that Michael may not have been the original immigrant of the name Keefe or O'Keefe to Ferryland, or at least not the only one. There is evidence from a family tree on Ancestry managed by Ronald Desmarais in the US, a descendant of this line, that the original immigrant was actually named Valentine Keefe or O'Keefe married to Lucy Lanahan. Also, Enid O'Brien supplied this bit of information:

"William O'Keefe, native of Ferryland, faithful servant of James H. Carter inquest - March 30, 1857 Gaz."

This would seem to imply that a second man of the same generation as Michael was in Ferryland at about this time.

Also this supplied by Enid:

"Edward O'Keefe, native of Waterford died at FD age 80 yrs, here 50 yrs (Boston papers pls copy)Oct 20,1879 That would mean he was born 1799 in Ireland and came to NL 1849 (Gert Crosbie's books)."

and this:

"Mrs. Edward O'Keefe, died on 5th at Ferryland, age 75 yrs 16/4/1884 T, M"

That would make at least three men of this surname (brothers ?) who emigrated from Ireland to Ferryland at about the same time, or at least who were born in the same generation and came to Ferryland during the same decades.

The latter Mrs. Edward O'Keefe could actually be the widow of a son of one of three older men.

Enid also commented on the connection between Michael and Johanna who married into the McNamara line:

"As far as I know Michael Keefe (from Ireland) md Johanna Fox, Harbour Grace, and their dgt, Johanna md Augustine McNamara. I don't know what records that was based on. I got it from David Fox and, also, from Marie. I have nothing to base that this Michael Keefe was from Ferryland. Of course, I had no reason to pursue it and Marie would have more records than I in this regard."

Mildred Boland (nee O'Keefe) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on November 18, 2016 at the age of 65, Mildred Boland of Calvert. Predeceased by her husband Michael Boland, parents Anne and John O'Keefe, parents-in-law Michael and Marie Boland, sisters Margaret Clowe and Nellie Duggan, brother John O'Keefe Jr. and brothers-in-law Reg Clowe, John Duggan, James Barron, Peter Boland and John Boland, sister-in-law Nora Boland. April 29, 1937 - August 20, 2021
 Thomas (Tommy) Augustus O'Keefe, age 84 years, passed gently away at home in the loving presence of his family on August 20th, 2021. A proud Irish Newfoundlander and longtime resident of Ferryland, Tommy leaves those who loved him with fond and heartfelt memories that even death cannot touch. He was a strong, determined man who could always bring smiles and laughter to those in his company. He will be missed by so many.
Tommy is predeceased by his parents John and C. Anne O'Keefe, his sisters Margaret Clowe (Reginald), Nellie Duggan (John), Mildred Boland (Mikey) and brother John O'Keefe. Also, his Mother and Father-in law Arthur and Vera Rose, brother in-laws Jim Barron, Alex Rose and nephew, Adam Rose.
Leaving to mourn his wife Marina, his children, Christopher (Susan), Vanessa, Clinton (Cheryl) and Katrina; his grandchildren whom he loved the most Maria (Kyle), Lauren, Nathan, Ellie, Rose, Sam and Conall; and his great granddaughter Shea; his sisters Mary (Harold), Catherine (Ed), Muriel, and Lillian (Tolson); and his brothers Valentine (Bernice), Kenneth (Anne), Glen (Kathy) and Mark (Linda); sister in-laws, Pauline O'Keefe and Mary Rose. As well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
A sincere thank you to Dr. Monica Kidd, Michelle Rossiter RN, Sharon Aylward NP, and all the staff of the Shamrock Medical Center. A very special thank you to his two daughter in-laws Susan and Cheryl for their extra love and care during his final hours. You are truly angels on earth.
Cremation has already taken place, as per Tommy's request. Visitation will take place at Fahey's Funeral Home in Fermeuse, NL on Monday, August 23rd from 2pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm. Mass and Christian burial to take place from Holy Trinity RC church in Ferryland, NL at 11am Tuesday, August 24th. Flowers are gratefully accepted or a donation may be made to a charity of ones choice.
