In her book Over The Fence, Laura Morry Williams recounts how Tine used to come visit in a great coat with many pockets each filled with bottles of beer. He would ask Laura's mother's permission to open a beer and he would never be without one in his hand from then until the time he left the house. He apparently stammered. Tine did try to stop drinking and even took the pledge, though it never lasted long apparently.

She also recounts how Tine and his brother Bert were both on leave in England one time and found themselves in the same cell after celebrating a little too much.

Today I swapped the date of birth that I had for a date of Christening and substituted as date of birth 30 Nov 1908 which I found on the Ancestry family tree of Ronald Desmarais, a descendant of this line. It seems to fit this way.

When Jean Agnes Kavanagh Morry passed away on May 4th, her obituary omitted the name of her father, even though her parents had apparently been married for many years. When I enquired of Fredi Caines why this was so and why she used her mother's surname as her maiden name I was told that she was born before her "parents" were married and that her real father MAY be "Tyne Keefe" but no one really knows or no one is telling at any event.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a kind and gentle soul, Valentine (Val) Albert O'Keefe, who passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center on January 11, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

Valentine is predeceased by parents John and C. Anne O'Keefe, sisters Margaret Clowe (Reginald), Nellie Duggan (John), Mildred Boland (Mikey) and brothers Tommy O'Keefe and John O'Keefe; father and mother-in-law Bill and Hilda Hawkins, sisters-in-law Betty Welcher, Lorraine Hawkins, Catherine Kenny, brothers-in-law Jim Barron, Stan Welcher, and Fabian Kenny.

Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 53 years, Bernice (nee Hawkins), daughters Valerie and Kim (Colin Swain); grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Deanne (Tyler), Daniel (Keesha), Connor, Kaleb and Kiera; precious great-grandchild Zander and Craig Byrne who he treated like his own.

Forever loved by sisters Mary (Harold), Catherine (Ed), Muriel, and Lillian (Tolson); brothers, Kenneth (Anne), Glen (Kathy) and Mark (Linda); sisters-in-law, Marina O'Keefe, Pauline O'Keefe, Theresa Lawlor (Albert), Janet Hawkins, brothers-in-law Michael Hawkins (Helen), Vince Hawkins, as well as many special nieces and nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends too numerous to mention.

No words can describe the appreciation for the health care professionals who allowed him to have a wonderful quality of life. To Dr. Siddiqui and Dr. McIsaac, and all the nurses at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center, we are truly indebted for your compassion and care. He would always sing your praises and felt blessed to have such exceptional group by his side. To Michelle Rossiter RN, Rebecca Kenny NP, Sharon Aylward NP, Katie O'Brien RPh and all the staff at the Shamrock Medical Center in Ferryland, who have always gone above and beyond; To our special nurse, Shirley Swain, who was constantly on call to provide support and guidance; To the nurses on 5 South B,thank you for your compassionate end of life care.

He devoted his life to his family. He worried more about others despite his own health obstacles. He would never complain or utter an ill word. His positive outlook was inspirational, his courage and strength never faltered. He cherished his friendships and his patience and hard work was like no other. He was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed but never forgotten by anyone that shared his company.

A sincere thank you to all the family and friends who have provided so much support this past few months. Please know that your acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed and we are truly grateful.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and a Christian burial will occur at a later date.
