N.B.:
More recent, detailed and accurate information on George Treacher Oliphant and indeed all this family line was provided to me in a letter from Anthony Oliphant on June 22, 2001. Some of this latter information conflicts with that on the website but Anthony informs me the website is out of date and this printed data is to be trusted over it.
So, in actual fact this is the text that should replace the above:
3. vii.GEORGE TREACHER OLIPHANT, b. May 9,1825, London England; d. December 18,1909, St. John's, NFLD.
3. GEORGE TREACHER3 OLIPHANT (WILLIAM GORDON OLIPHANT2 SR., WILLIAM1 OLIPHANT) was born May 9,1825 in London England, and died December 18,1909 in St. John's, NFLD. He married SARAH PAYNE WINDSOR 1849 in Aquaforte, NFLD., daughter of PETER WINSOR and SARAH PAYNE. She was born December 21, 1816 in Devonshire, England, and died July 24, 1903 in St. John's, NFLD..
Notes for GEORGE TREACHER OLIPHANT: George Treacher Oliphant was the youngest of his siblings, and was eleven yrs old when his mother and father died. His older sister Eliza Brintiny Oliphant Morgan raised him and his surviving brother Robert Bassels Oliphant. After the death of their parents, they stayed at Prince Edward Island for about ten years. On September 24th, 1846, they arrived in NFLD. I'm not certain what circumstances brought George Treacher to be in Aquaforte, but there he gained employment at a local fishing house under the supervision of Peter Windsor, Who would eventually become his father-in-law, after Treacher married Peter's oldest daughter Sarah.
In George Treacher's 74th, year, some lawyers came from Scotland to Nfld; named Hunter & Bonning, regarding a family inheritance. They asked him if he could prove his grandparents marriage. And if he could, the inheritance would go to his brother Robert. As Treacher had not heard from his brother in some time, he was not aware that he had died at Singapore. So technically, Treacher was the only surviving male of this line. " He never pursued it. " His response, and as he later wrote in a letter, " If we thought we were going to be deprived of our parents in less than two years after arriving at Prince Edward Island, we might have known more. "However, the outcome of their visit was never revealed; Treacher assumed it would be tied up in Chancery, which is the English Courts.
In 1859, George Treacher Oliphant is listed in a voters registration list, and is listed as living at his father-in-law, Peter Windsor's house, Aquaforte NFLD. 1904 Directory - St. John's and Area: List's George T. Oliphant as boarding at his son's house George Lindsey Oliphant, 43 William St. St. John's NFLD. It list's his occupation as Fisherman.
George T. Oliphant's Obituary read:
WELL KNOWN MAN INTERRED: Mr. George T. Oliphant, father of Srgt Oliphant, who does duty in the Magistrate's Court, died Saturday night after an illness of short duration. He was well known and highly respected in the city and had reached the ripe age of 85 years. His funeral, which took place yesterday afternoon, was largely attended. Besides the Srgt. he leaves two daughters to mourn him. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

160803: Just came upon a Marker Record Form from the Newfoundland and Labrador Genealogical Society sent to me by Tony Oliphant on June 22, 2001. It reads:
Mount Carmel RC Cemetery Marker Number M 1927: Erected by George Lindsey Oliphant - In memory of his mother Sarah Payne Windsor Oliphant Died July 24, 1903. Aged 87 years old. Also his father Goerge Treacher Oliphant. Died Dec. 18, 1809. Aged 85 years. "May their souls rest in peace." Oliphant. Also Alphonsus and Mildred. Died in infancy - Beloved children of George and Anne Oliphant.
061224:
I am tempted to disconnect George "Treacher" Oliphant from the ancestry provided by Tony Olipant because there are no records that support his relationship to "Col. William Gordon Oliphant". There is some limited support for his being the son of a William Oliphant and Jane Cundell, since there are other Oliphants in Newfoundland who had a connection to Charlottetown at one time and were known to be the sons and daughters of a William Oliphant (no military title and no middle name) and Jane Cundell reported to be from Bonnington Park near Leith (Edinburgh), Scotland. I suspect that Tony has chosen the wrong William Oliphant for his family line to connected with the nobles of that surname.
Also, the middle name "Treacher" may be apocryphal, since only his middle initial "T" appears on official documents. Tony apparently has some family papers including letters and a bible which he has used to develop his theory of the family line before they came to Canada but I have never seen these documents and it appears that his family tree online no longer exists to check the details there. His new book "Oliphant - The Broken Branch" is of no help in reconciling these unknowns because it simply accepts his theories as proven when they are far from proven.
