This is the immediate ancestor of Michael Rennie of San Jose who is shown, along with several relatives for whom he manages DNA kits, to be distantly related to me (ca 23 cM). Neither of us can as yet put our finger on the common ancestor.

A new email from Michael added this information:

"Both John Bowring Rennie's parents were born in Glasgow, Scotland and was one of many children by William Frederick Rennie and his 2nd wife, Catherine Thorburn McNab. There is a small chance that one of the descendant's of William's first wife will be tested one day and have the right DNA to show which parent of John Bowring Rennie the DNA came from. I believe there are lot of these descendants owing to John Bowring Rennie's older half-sisters, particularly Mary Rennie who married John Bowring of Bowring Brothers."

Not sure about this because John Bowring Rennie is the only child I show by this marriage so far.
