Mary Dolorosa Tarvin, known affectionately as Del to family and friends, passed peacefully away at The Health Sciences Centre at the age of 93 on March 10, 2020. She is predeceased by her parents George and Winifred McNamara, formerly of St. John's, NL. Born in St. John's on September 7, 1927, Del was educated at St. Bride's College at Littledale on Waterford Bridge Road and later attended college in Vermont, USA. She lived for many years in the United States in New York, San Francisco and Dallas and moved back to St. John's with her family in 1966. She worked for over 35 years at Memorial University at the Faculty of Medicine as an Administrative Staff Specialist in Undergraduate Medical Studies. Del loved to entertain and cook for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, Big Band music and interior decorating. During her life she had a large circle of family and friends who regularly had get togethers, singalongs, and played lots of cards. They all loved life, laughed a lot and were truly great companions for many years. Del will be sadly missed by her family: son Terry, daughter Andrea, son in law Steve Vaughan, and grandson Stephen Vaughan, as well as a large number of cousins and other relatives living across Canada and the USA including the Shea, Casey and McNamara clans. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of her Life for family and friends at a later date to be announced. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland and Labrador at: https://alzheimer.ca/en/nl.
