BROOKE, Frances Tuesday, 20 Jul 2004 Ladysmith Chronicle Ladysmith, BC Frances died peacefully at her home on July 20, 2004 at Mermaid Cove in Yellowpoint. Frances (Sweet) was born in London, England in 1910 and came to Canada in her teens. Frances is survived by her husband George of 57 years, her daughter June Morry, her 7 granchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 nieces. Frances (Sweet) was known for her vivaciousness, sense of humour, keen intelligence, and strength of character. She lived a full and good life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of Frances' life took place at Mermaid Cove Resort, Yellowpoint on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 3:00pm. Flowers gratefully declined, donations in memory may be made to N.A.C.L. 26 Commercial Street, Nanaimo, BC V9R 5G4. Condolences may be offered at www.sands-funeral.com

If this is indeed she it shoots the theory that she was from London. But it makes perfect sense because her first husband was supposed to have been a coal miner in Cumberland on Vancouver Island (personal communication from family 040921) and the Welsh were sought after as miners in Canada. The family also spoke of him as if his name was Nickerson and that he was buried at St. Luke's in Victoria but Barb Prescott assured me that no one of that surname was buried there though some burials of Nicholsons did exist (e.g. a municipal counsellor of Saanich). So it remains a mystery at this time.
