Mame's grandfather was also John Baker Sr who died when the ship The Glance was lost around 1866. . Her grandmother was Mary Baird (4/1842-15/7/1929) who was born at Freshwater Bay. This was why Mary Baird Baker was determined that her only son, John, didn't go to sea. She was terrified he would be lost. She moved across the harbour to St. John's when her father died in Freshwater Bay.
