My Grandfather was 21 years old and my Grandmother was 16 when her two brothers helped them run away, that Sunday after Church, to be married. The next day her Father, William James "Bill" Smith, drove into Fayetteville to his attorney's office and made out a new Will disinheriting her. At that time, he told everyone that she was no longer his daughter. Grandmother told me that when he got back home he took everythingshe owned outside to the front yard and set it on fire. The only thing she had left were the clothes that she took with her in a small bagwhen she and my Grandfather eloped."
