A ship's manifest for the SS NEWFOUNDLAND leaving St. John's for Halifax on February 21, 1931 shows Frank McNamara travelling with his wife Mary. Their destination is not named but they are joining the SS AUSONIA for their onward travel so it is most likely the US, though it could be Europe.

190916:
Here is his bio by Edward Roberts in the memoir of Peter Cashin, "My Fight for Newfoundland":

McNamara, Frank (1870-1951)
McNamara, a commission merchant, was a Member of the Legislative
Council from 1917 to 1934 and served as a Minister without Portfolio in
the second Ministry (1932-34) of Frederick Alderdice, qv. His principal
holding was F.J. McNamara Limited, a wholesale grocery firm. He became
a strong supporter of the Responsible Government League during the 1948
Referenda campaigns and was a plaintiff in the proceeding brought against
the Commission of Government in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland in
December 1948. The case was heard by Brian Dunfield, qv, who dismissed
the claim. Dunfield's decision was upheld by his fellow judges Edward
Emerson and Harry Winter, qqv, on appeal. The decisions are reported in
Currie (Honourable John S.) et al. v. MacDonald (Sir Gordon, Governor of
Newfoundland) et al. (Newfoundland Law Reports 1947-1949 [Trial], 365-
399, and [Appeall, 399-423). He was the "middle-class general dealer" of
whom PJC spoke (176).

Enid O'Brien email 01/09/00:

"George married Winnifred Shea. They had a wholesale business on George Street for years."

Email from Andrea Tarvin 210207:

"George Cornwall McNamara - Born October 23, 1900 - Died September 6, 1973. There may be some discrepancy over the birthdate but not the death date because I was there that night and it was the night before my mother's birthday.

Just got off the phone with Marie Skiffington...I think she may be right and my grandfather was born in 1903, still October 23rd though."

110815:

There seems to be some evidence that George Cornwall McNamara and his wife and daughter lived in the US for a while and returned to Newfoundland. On the ship's manifest of the S.S. Ft. Amherst leaving St. John's August 24, 1945 it shows that their last permanent residence was in New York City. It is possible that this was an error and was their intended desination but the column seems to be correct for other travellers so it seems likely it is correct for them as well. Possibly he was assigned to work in the US temporarily as an agent for one of the St. John's merchants (Job Bros., Ayres) with whom he worked as an accountant. But it would have only been temporary as they spent most of their lives in St. John's and he and Winnifred died there.
