Edward was the fifth child of Michael Cullen B1797 Thomastown County Kilkenny Ireland - D30/2/1882 Lancefield Vic and Mary Cullen nee McCabe B21/8/1803 County Kilkenny Ireland D13/3/1855 Launceston Van Diemans Land (Tasmania). Michael and Mary had six children Margaret B1821, Thomas B1823, Bridget B 1825, Patrick B 1827, Edward (23) B1831 and Michael B1838. In 1841 Michael, Mary, Margaret, Thomas, Bridget, Edward and Michael sailed as assisted immigrants from Plymouth on 26/8/1841 on the Gilmore a wooden sailing ship of 550 tons the Ships Master was W.M. Maw and the Gilmore arrived on 24/12/1841 in Port Phillip. The Gilmore was built in India of teak in 1824 at 450-ton, she was re-constructed and lengthened especially for the Australian passenger trade in 1829, when she was re-rated at 550 tons. She was a full-rigged ship sheathed with copper. In 1841 she was doubled and re-sheathed and in 1843 and 1848 had large repairs done to her. Below is an extract from the Passenger List of the Gilmore it also includes the fares paid by Michael and his family.

After arriving in Victoria, Michael and his Family travelled to Van Diemans Land (Tasmania) where they settled in the Launceston area. Michael was a farmer in the Launceston area. On 29/11/1861 Edward (23) married Mary-Ann Burns (24) in St Joseph's Catholic Church Launceston Tasmania. The couple had 11 children in 25 years including their sixth child Catherine Helena Winfred (24). In 1851 Edward (23) and Mary (24) sailed for Victoria where they settled in Flemington, Melbourne Vic. In Melbourne Edwards occupation was given as a Carrier however in 1857 Edward's occupation was given as a farmer renting a property at Duck Ponds Vic. The family stayed at Duck ponds for several years moving to Nulla Nulla near Lancefield Vic where they selected 2000 acres for farming. Edward had dairy cows and was also a member of the Lancefield creamery Board.
In 1893 Edward (23) and his sons moved to St James (Lake Rowan) where he bought over 1000 acres of land to farm. Many-Ann (24) and her daughters were running the dairy farm at Lancefield. Edward (23) fought years of drought at Lake Rowan and the strain of these events was too much for him and he took his own life on 10/5/1895. He is buried in the Lake Rowan Vic Cemetery.

Email from Enid O'Brien 270705: "Also, continuing with this family Margaret "Peggy" married Rex Renouf who was a prominent Lawyer and MHA in St. John's. Peggy died a young woman also with cancer of the breast and Rex married Dr. Norah Elphinstone (an English doctor related to the Queen mother). She often went to Buckingham Palace to attend celebrations. I believe Dr. Norah is still living. When Rex died she married Bill Browne, a law partnerwith Rex and also MHA and leader of the PC party. Rex and Peg had three dgts: Andrea (who was in my class at school) married Bill Gillies. Andrea died a few years ago with cancer of the breast (her children Meg & Bill Gillies) Tia Renouf and Deanne married Dr. Bora Merdsoy. Deanne also died with cancer."
