Hello Chris, My great grandfather was born in Newton Abbott Devon, England in about 1819, I know his fathers name was John as I have a marriage certificate for his marriage to Elizabeth Rook (widow) which at present I can't find. As far as know they only had one son Edwin and no other children. I have found a baptism for Edwin Gray 16th June 1820 at Wolborough Newton Abbott father John Gray, who is listed as a cooper. Mother Mary Gray.

I have not been able to prove this as yet. Perhaps John had a brother. Trust this will help. Regards, Janet

"Elizabeth was firstly married to Rook, widowed and I have found a child but can't confirm it was from her marriage to Rook, think his name was Richard. Elizabeth then married Edwin Gray (born in Wolborough, Newton Abbot, Devon. At the time of their marriage Edwin was a man servant in Grosvenor Square, London. Elizabeth was a few years older than Edwin. I'm rather busy today and will be going away from Monday to Wednesday to Norwich, Norfolk. When I return I hope to look up my records to confirm what I have said."
