Notes for ANN GORDON: Ann Oliphant was the daughter of General John Gordon, who was killed in the battle of Waterloo.
080914:
It seems that the family may have exaggerated the rank of their ancestor. A man named John Gordon was severely wounded at the Battle of Waterloo and may have died subsequently as a result of his wounds, but he was not a general; he was a Lieutenant of the 7th Hussars. Big difference!
Furthermore, the Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 Jun 1815, a generation at least after the father of Ann Gordon would have been alive.
This seems apocryphal because he would have been very old at the time of this battle.

David basis his estimate on the date of marriage on the date that it was registered, which is not necessarily soon afterward. Since at least two of their children were born prior to this date I am inclined to think this is a bad estimate and I am revising it to bef. 1908 today.
