280413:
On NGB there are transcriptions of all the legible headstones in Forest Rd. Cemetery. They give William's date of death as Feb 3, 1912 and his age as 74. We know that his birth date was 27 Sep 1867. Clearly the date on the gravestone transcription is in error and should be Feb. 3. 1942, I have corrected it as such on my family tree and will inform the NGB staff.

In his will, which I transcribed from a copy obtained for me by Enid O'Brien at the Supreme Court Probate Office today, he left almost his entire fortune to his wife, Jane Josephine Morry Gray, with the exception of a few modest bequests to charities and relatives of his. One interesting bequest was an amount given to George LeMessurier. I'm not sure what his reasons were for making this bequest.

250815:
There is a possibility, though it would seem increbily unlikely, that at the age of 12 he fathered a child out of wedlock in England. A person by his exact name (an uncle perhaps) was registered as the father of a child named Samuel Branscombe Gray, the unwed mother being Elizabeth Tinsley Edge, daughter of George edge, in Cheshire Parish. I record it here because it seems almost certain that if the father was not this person he was certainly a relative who may be found later on and added. Here is the information from Family Search:

There is a marriage record between a William Wreyford Gray and a Mary Ann Branscombe in Newton Abbott in 1838. It would seem most likely from the names given to the child above that the father of that child was in fact the son of this marriage. But with this unusual combination of names I am convinced that they are all somehow related to the Grays in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

030416 information from Janet McIntyre:
William Wreyford Gray 4/11/1808
son of John and Mary Gray
Wolborough St Mary 251A/PR/1/4
There is evidence online that he married a woman named Mary Ann Branscombe but there seems to be no source for this information. Censuses show several of the purported sons of the marriage but never the wife. William is always shown as a widower in these censuses starting with 1861.
I have just discovered a very well sourced family tree on Ancestry.com which deals extensively with this family. It is the Gray/Thrussell Family Tree and is managed by a person named Jeremy Gray who appears to be a direct descendant of William Wreyford Gray and Mary Ann Branscombe. I am going to use his information to clear up the relationships and information on this family previously collected from less reliable online trees.
