When Alice was single, before the war and up to the time of her marriage, she had an admirer named Nicholas Hunt who kept up a correspondence with her while he was away at war. It appears he was a friend and/or colleague of Stan Windsor, who also went off to fight in the war. There are four postcards from Nix, as he was known, to Alice, sent before and during the war which are found in the Anna Elton Morris collection at the Centre for Newfoundland Studies. So obviously she was not so embarrassed by this former suitor's attentions to keep the subject secret from her daughter, who inherited these postcards and preserved them. The one depicting Nix with Stan Windsor is repruduced in Stan Windsor's page.

Alice Lester was apparently a TB patient at one time. A photo of her at the sanatporium is also in the collection.
