I struggled for some time with the identification of the people in the group photo which appears to show two ladies dressed as invalids in hosptal, each with a child on her lap, and an unnamed nurse on the right. It turns out that the lady with Maida on her lap who is identified as Mrs. Fearn was more specifically Alice Fearn and she is named on the same immigration card with Georgina noted as friends on entry to the US at Detroit on May 28, 1928, after having travelled on board the ROSALIND from St. John's to Montreal. Where occupation is listed it gives house work but this probably means she was not employed outside of the home.

They are en route to visit a friend, Mrs. Barnes, at 1418 Claremont St. in Detroit. Georgina gives as her next of kin her father, C. Lester, at 55 Hamilton Ave., in St. John's. She is noted as a widow.

While this still doesn't completely answer the questions that are raised by the photo, it does seem to imply that Mrs. Fearn was with the family for a good number of years, possibly initially as a governess and later as a domestic of some description.
