111204: She was listed as the Head of the household in the 1930 Census because her husband George had died in 1926. Her age was given as 52 and her birth year as about 1878, in Northern Ireland.

070806: Email from Enid O'Brien:

"Re: the info provided me by Kay Jahn Morry states that Mary "Minnie" Marshall was born September 13, 1877 at Auchnacloy, County Tyrone,Ireland and died March 1, 1958 at Seattle and both she and her husband, George Wm Morry are buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Seattle."

"Yes, Elizabeth Marshall (Minnie's sister) called Lizzie (1875-1972) married George E. Grant and Margaret Ann (1876-1960) married John Adams Dunford (1876-1940) Ref. Kay Jahn Morry."

110907: The 1930 census copy provided to me by Enid O'Brien from Ancestry.comalso revealed the following: Her income in that year was listed as $6000 and she owned her own home but hads no occupation. It was noted that she was not naturalised. All her children were still living at home at that time.

241010: Email from Rick Morry: "There is no certain answer to the spelling of my grandmother's middle name. My great grandmother Mary Murray is K. on her tombstone but my Dad's cousin's notes on the church records in Ireland has it as Catherine but as to other family he notes that these records differ sometimes from government records. My grandmother is consistently Catherine. Kathryn is wrong; that is from a misspelling in my mother's records. So for now I go with Catherine. Although I have been to Aughnacloy three times, I have always deferred to my elders in actually looking at the records. Susie and I return next May so I will see what I find personally then." Based on this information I am changing her middle name to Catherine today.

Dear Chris,

My wife and I spent two weeks in Ireland this month, and I checked on some family history things. Found some new information but also found information casting dobut on prior information. Sort of a tie game.

One thing I did positively reconfirm is that my grandmother's official birth middle name is Catherine with a C. In the USA, however, it became a K sometimes Katherine and occasonally Kathryn. But I am going with the birth spelling of Catherine. So my prior advice to you was correct.

The register on microfilm which can be viewed and downloaded from the National Library of Ireland website is very difficult to read. This is the register for Aghaloo Parish, which includes Aughnacoly, and it appears to read:

"Sept. 13 [1877 at top of page] Mary Kathryn of Robt. Marshall & Catherine Murray.
SS [Sponsors] John & Mary Ann Marshall"

But Rick photographed this register at the church in Ireland a few years ago and the actual wording is:

"Sept. 13 [1877 at top of page] Mary Catharine [sic] of Robt. Marshall & Catharine [sic] Murray.

Previously the family had lived in rooms downtown while operating their store and later a restaurant.  Mary Catherine Marshall would have lived there when being courted by George William Morry.  After they married in 1905, they moved around the corner to a home of their own.  The rest of the family lived in the Taylor Avenue home until the family split up in 1908 when the girls came and took their mother away from Robert Marshall whom they believed was abusive to her.
