Events

• Alt. Birth: Cir 1894, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

• Immigration: from Newfoundland, 1907, British Columbia, Canada.

• Residence: 3701 Palo Alto Street in the Mount Tolmie area of Saanich, Aug 1907, Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. (Occupant)

• Arrival: From Vancouver via the CHARMER, 9 Aug 1907, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. (Travelling together)

• Census: Saanich Ward 1, Ward 6, Nanaimo District, 1911, Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. Albert and Sister in Law Sarah Bradshaw and her children. Clara McCoubrey and her son Alexander are shown on the same census form immediately after the Bradshaws. I suspect that they were all living in the same house, built by Albert.

• Occupation: Labourer, 1911, Saanich, British Columbia, Canada.

• Occupation: Electrian with BC Hydro, 1917-1959, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

• Occupation: Meter Man, BC Electric, 12 Jul 1920, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

• Residence: Mt. Tolmie, 12 Jul 1920, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

• Residence: 2 Jan 1934, Saanich, British Columbia, Canada.

• Occupation: Meter Tester, Christmas Ave., 1945, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

• Residence: Voters Lists show him at 1700 Christmas Ave., 1945-1953, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

• Occupation: Foreman; 1700 Christmas Ave., 1953, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

• Appointment: Church Warden at St. Luke's, 1956 to 1958, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have been sorting through some other St. Luke's church information to eventually put at our website and was updating a list of the Wardens at St. Luke's. I was interested to see that A. McCoubrey, Clara's son, was the People's Warden at St. Luke's from 1956-1958 while L.C. Lytton (which I would assume was Leonard Claude Lytton, John's grandfather) was the People's Warden in 1919. Since Alexander McCoubrey was obviously involved at St. Luke's and would be a cousin to the Bradshaw siblings, I wondered if he was buried at St. Luke's and had been missed somehow. But I found from the burial registered that he is buried at Royal Oak.

Enough for now
Cheers
Barb
.

020416:

On the 1953 Voters List I learned that he had a wife but also that there was another McCoubrey, William A. R. a printer, along with his wife Mrs. Irene M, a stenographer, living on the next street over -- 1701 Midguard in Victoria.

I had never known that he had a brother. Perhaps he is a cousin, but they are obviously related. This needs more research.

130619:

I have now been informed by Amanda MacCoubrey and Pauline Dooley, both of whom have researched the family, that William A. R. McCoubrey was the only child of Alexander and Williamina so I am adding him in today as such.

Oct 2 1851 Andrew McCRUBRY (McCoubrey) 67 yrs From Bally-na-Hinch near Belfast, Ireland, married Elizabeth Rixon of Wales. Came to NL to be the Kings Printer.

071219:

His name is listed as a hairdresser with 10 people in his household which was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1819. The profession is curious. Also the fact that he was housing 10 people - several of his children were not yet born suggesting other family members (parents?) resided with them. 6491

I had originally thought that this and other marriages were celebrated at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in St. John's because even though they were recorded in the Petty Harbour C of E Register it was stated that the marriage took place at St. Andrew's. I have since learned that the first Anglican church in Pertty Harbour, which was consecrated on Sept. 13, 1846, was named St. Andrew's. It burned down in 1934 and was replaced with the larger St. George's Anglican Church which now serves that area. Marriage Notes
