Extract from White Wings - Sir Henry Brett
The Nimroud left the Downs on August 12, 1864, and arrived in Auckland Harbour on December 17, having been 126 days on the passage. When running down her easting she encountered terrific gales. On October 30 and 31 she was hove-to under close- reefed topsails, and during this time she was struck by a heavy sea that filled the decks and shifted the cargo. On the 29th of the same month many large icebergs were passed. On November 1 a tremendous sea swept over the ship, flooding the decks and doing much damage on deck.
Obtained land in Auckland (Arch Hill) and Great Barrier Island. In the "Tales from Great Barrier Island" by Helen Jordan Luff on page 10 'The Auckland Provincial Council offered each immigrant a farm of forty acres if they had paid passage to New Zealand themselves. A married couple would be eligible for eighty acres of free land. However this land could be quite unsuitable for farming as many people discovered.
Died at Arch Hill, Auckland. Death registration shows had been living in New Zealand for 21 years and 5 children (2 males age 23 and 19, and 3 females age 27, 26 and 21) living.
