COSTELLO, Raymond- Passed away with courage and grace from this life into the next, surrounded by his loving family on March 6, 2008, at the L.A. Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit, age 63 years, of Ferryland. Predeceased by his parents, Rupert and Elizabeth Costello. Raymond leaves to mourn his wife Jane; sons: Hilary (Marcheta), Raymond (Adele); six grandchildren: Kerri, Stephanie, Matthew, Kyle, Danielle and Olivia. He also leaves sisters: Catherine (Eugene) Ward and Jean (Jerome) White; sisters-in-law: Clem (John), Lucy (Basil) and Catherine (dec.); brothers-in-law: Mike (Vonnie), Nick (dec.) (Margaret), Jim (dec.) (Pauline). Special thanks to Doctors Maroun, Zulfigar and Shublaq andstaff of Health Sciences and L.A. Miller Centre, Vianne and Glen Chidley, Karen Henessey, Mike and Vonnie, and many more special friends. Also a large circle of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Remains resting at Fahey's Funeral Home, Fermeuse. Visitation on Friday from 7-9 p.m. for immediate family. General visitation Saturday from 10-12 noon and 2-9 p.m.; Sunday from 2-9 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 10 from Holy Trinity Church, Ferryland at 2:30 p.m. Cremation to follow. 130308: I asked Uncle Howard to clarify the relationship between Ray and the other Costellos in Ferryland, many of whom were assoicated with the lightkeeping there over the years and some of whom were related to the Morrys via marriage. This is what he had to say on the matter:

"Hi Chris. RAY COSTELLO is RUPERT COSTELLO'S son who died fairly young a good many years ago, he was the son of GUS COSTELLO who manned the light when I was growing up and I was out there many times with DAD. Some of his sons are RUPERT, WILLIE, GUSSY, CLARENCE that I know of. There may be more but they were the ones I knew when I lived up there.These 4 are all gone now, and there was also girls whom I don't know. They all went away to work at a young age. JOHN WILL COSTELLO was GUS'S brother and never manned the lighthouse in my time. It was always GUS or one of his sons. RUPERT built a house in by the Pool. The other 3 lived at the lighthouse. WILLIE married and lived at the lighthouse. The other 2 boys never married. I remember during the winter of 1940 DAD took the census for1 cent a name how's that for money! I remember MR GUS pointing to a ship passing along and said to DAD if he doesn't keep her off she is going to run aground in Beer Cove and she did indeed with a loss of 2 lives."
