Notes
General:
280414:

He won the Military Medal at Keiberg Ridge, Sept. 1918 according to the information associated with the photograph shown here at the Memorial University Digital Archives Initiative.

In Captain Sydney Frost's memoirs published by Ed Roberts at the same time that my book came out, under the Title of " A Blue Puttee at War: The Memoir of Captain Sydney Frost, MC" Roberts had this to say as a caption to the same photograph shown here:

"Private Bramwell Booth Reid, from Heart's Delight in Trinity Bay, was eighteen when he joined the Regiment in September 1916. Two years later, he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery during the fighting at Keiberg Ridge, in Belgium. His Commanding Officer, Captain Sydney Frost, recommended that he receive a decoration."

Later he goes on to give the commendation that led to Bramwell being awarded the Military Medal:

Reg. No. 3120 '96 Pte. Bramwell Booth Reid, Heart's Delight, Newfoundland '96 Military Medal '96 Keiberg Ridge '96 Authority, London Gazette, 14 May 1919. For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. On 29 September 1918, during the attack beyond Keiberg Ridge, the right Company had been temporarily held up by about forty of the enemy firing from an entrenched position. Under very heavy machine-gun fire Reid crawled forward to the left flank with his Lewis Gun, opened an enfilade fire upon the enemy and was the means of forcing them to surrender, enabling the whole line to advance.

According to his military files, he was hospitalised twice during his time overseas, once due to syphilis and once due to a gunshot wound to the thigh. Interestingly it took nearly three times as long to cure the former injury (107 days).
