Predeceased by hisparents John and Annie. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories his loving wife Bertha (nee McCarthy); two sons Gerard and John (Tamara), Halifax, NS; sister Frances Barnable (Stan); brother Robert; grandson Owen, father-in-law Paddy McCarthy; three nephews Roger, Paul and Stephen Barnable; as well as many other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul?s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Thursday from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 1 p.m. from Roncalli Chapel, 130Airport Heights Drive, St. John?s. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or a charity of one?s choice."

According to a family tree of Blanche Thorne supplied to me by Paul Cohen (he manages her DNA profile on FamilyTreeDNA), our common ancestor's were James Hillyer and Mary Thorne, though he shows her name as Mary Thornton. He also provides parents for her under that name. This seems to me to be a bit tentative and I am entering his information pro temps pending more conclusive evidence.
