Attended Balclutha School 1915, George Street from 1 February 1916 (register # 15 and 146), Normal 1917-1920.

Reminiscence from John WILMSHURST in 2007; "Arthur had a little farmette in Hawera and was the local milkman and when he stayed with him he would go out on his morning rounds with him." Another reminisence was during the war "Arthur had visited the WILMSHURST family before embarking for the Pacific and the family had gone down to thw wharf to see him off. A couple of days later they had a knock on the door and he was back.. A Japanese sub had tried to torpedo the ship near Fiji so it turned tail and sped back to New Zealand. However he was off again almost immeiately."

Served in the Air Force during World War II as a sergeant radio operator; was stationed in various locations in the Pacific including in 1945 Espititu Santo, Guadacanal and Bougainville. In a letter to his nephew John WILMSHURST in October 1945 posted from New Zealand Army Post Office 308 (NZAPO) he indicated he was stationed at Bouganville (at Torakina to be exact, right on Piva airstrip). He also wrote "when I left N.Z. in January last I was first at Espiritu Santo, then I went to Guadacanal and now I am here on Bougainville. Whilst I was on Guadacanal I made quite a number of Air trips and saw Jacquinot Bay & Los Negros & also I made a trip over Rabaul one day". He also wrote "By the way, John, you should see our picture shows over here - all open air & for seats we either sit on the ground or "scrounge" oil drums, boxes in fact anything at all that can be used for a seat, even at times, climb trees to see! If it comes on to rain, well, that is just too bad, we would be soaked before we could reach our tents anyway so we just stay where we are & see the picture out."

After the war had a grocers shop at 291 (later renumbered to 515) Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland and in later years was employed as a storeman. Had a very kean interest in amateur radio, call sign ZL1MT(previously ZL2HR) from the 1930s up to shortly before he died. Died intestate, probate filed 16 January 1990 Hamilton Court (probate no. 17/90).
