130310: The name Edward Docherty is listed on David Docherty's marriage registration as his father. This was not correct. His mother's name was Sarah Docherty and she was not married according to David's birth registration (which did not give the father's name). Most likely his father's Christian name was Edward but his surname was almost certainly not Docherty. It would appear likely that he was an Irish man because the evidence suggests Sarah left Ireland after she became pregnant and her son was born in Scotland.
