WINSOR, Captain & Alvina CHAFE - Times And General Commercial Gazette, 1841-01-20
Notes
General:
Helen Steinke's information showed her as Alvina Chase but Anthony Oliphant's Family Tree of Peter and Jacob Windsor shows her as Alvina Chafe, sister of Susan who married John's brother Isaac Ford Winsor. I take this as being more accurate. Also the Records of births of their children in NLGS site show the first name as Elvina.
101119 from Edward Chafe:
Edward Chafe's grandson Edward Chafe (1796-1860) married Sarah Williams and had seven children. Daughter Alvina (or Elvina) Chafe (1819-1901) married John Jennings Winsor in 1841. Her sister Susanna Chafe (1831-1909) married his brother Isaac Ford Winsor in 1856.
I have been told John and Alvina Winsor had the following offspring - John; Frederick who moved to Western Canada; Daniel who moved to Niagara Falls; and Louisa.

030313: Originally I had this Ambrose as the son of Thomas Chafe and Anne with birth and baptismal information as given below taken from NGB. But it soon became obvious that this was wrong becuse that child died the following year. Hear are my notes as this unfolded:
I am not confident that I have the correct baptism/birth information for this Ambrose Chafe. There is an Ambrose Chafe born to these same two parents who died and was buried in Petty Harbour in infancy. It is entirely possible that after the first boy died they named their next son after him but it is also possible that the real birth record for this Ambrose Chafe has not been found and therefore these are not his parents. Needs further research.
See below: Ambrose CHAFE, son of Thomas & Anne CHAFE Oct. 25, 1838 1 year & 8 months Oct. 27, 1838 year and 8 months before Oct. 27 1838 would be February 1837.
I'm pretty sure therefore that I have the wrong parents and the wrong birth and baptism information for this Ambrose Chafe.
I now believe that he was in fact the brother of Elizabeth, who married Matthew Morry. Despite the age difference with his wife and the late marriage date, that is the only other Ambrose Chafe for which any evidence exists. It also makes more sense that it should be he who named his son after Matthew Morry and his daughter after Sarah Humphrey (his sister) rather than some distant relative. So I making this connection today.

Notes for John Chafe: Gravestone in St. George's Anglican Church Petty Harbour
Sacred the memory of Annette Chafe, daughter of John and Elizabeth Chafe of this place who departed this life the 17th Sept 1823 Aged 19 Years The early fate of her we mourn Would claim a kindred sigh A warning lesson too we learn Prepare, for death is nigh With prayer the chart of God explore You'll find the compass true The Anchor on the heavenly shore If Christ the Rock you view
Note by Edward Vincent Chafe: Annette Chafe was one of about seven or eight of John and Elizabeth Chafe. Annette had a sister Elizabeth, born Oct 23, 1815. Elizabeth married July 18, 1838 to Mathew Mony, and died two days later on July 22, 1838. John Chafe had died April 14, 1838 aged 66 years and Elizabeth's burial was listed directly below. Their cause of death must be left up to the imagination.
