It isn't clear who the father of Alexander, Archibald and Robert was but it certainly wasn't William Webster as he died in 1860. Most likely it was William Aitken, but why Aunt Jean had their surname recorded as Webster is anyone's guess. Perhaps Alison Dalrymple Webster did not marry William Aitken but had children by him and gave them her own married name to avoid gossip.

The above is now disproven. William Aitken was far too young to have been the father of these children. It is worthy of note that the child was noted as illegitmate on the birth register and that the surname given was that of the mother, Dalrymple. Only later did he and three other siblings born after the death of William Webster receive his name in some documents.

Note that on his birth/baptismal civil record only her name is shown (no father) and she is referred to as Allison Dalrymple OR Webster. Pretty telling I think.
