Notes
General:
220420:

It is now almost certain that John Philip Imisson was actually the illegitimate son of John Patrick Quinlisk and his landlady, Edith [Waite] Imisson. The DNA link points in this direction as Jamie has a first cousin, once removed relationship to Annette Imission and her probably half sister (Annette has never confirmed the DNA link), Hannah Imisson [?].

John Patrick Quinlisk is shown as being a boarder at the house of "Mrs. C. Imisson" in Barnsely in 1914-1915 before he enlisted. Though the initial is wrong, the street address is that of Percy and Edith Imisson. I assume, though the evidence is lacking, that John Patrick Quinlisk was boarding there from about 1911 onward and this is when the affair took place that resulted in the birth of John Philip Imisson.

Here is my earlier correspondence on the subject with Annette Imisson (married name Taylor):

Hello Annette:

You have recently shown up as a close match to my wife, Katherine O'Brien of County Tipperary Ireland. Unfortunately your family tree on this site does not contain any common names to make the connection. Do you have a more complete family tree you would be prepared to share?

Thanks

Hi Christopher,
I have only recently become a member of the Heritage website,...... I am still researching my parents " family history".
So far I have not found any connection with Irish descendents , but am happy to keep in touch.on my mother's side there are strong links with Wales as her family On the male side surname Fletcher have strong connections with " mining (coal) and Iron foundries, from Tredegar, Monmothshire... Sadly the " female" lineage is quite sketchy as I believe names on the " Census's in the early/mid 1800's accuracy regarding names " spellings" was dependent upon the " author" who wrote down the names on the census forms. Strong links also with West Riding of Yorkshire, and "Fletcher's" lived from 1850's to early 1900's in Whitton, Stillington, in Durham , migrating from Wales, and then migrating to Yorkshire staying in Iron Foundry and Coke works..... Whilst my mother's father surname is Storey, and again is sketchy....but Yorkshire based thus far......
On my father's side imisson, is traced back to early 1800's all in Yorkshire, but " Waite" ( my father's mother's family named) again Yorkshire based, but moving up from Gloucestershire in circa 1840's....
There are siblings connected on mother's side who Migrated down to Southampton area , became baker's but i believe died in bombing raids during ww2.Fletchers or Storey?, surname?
I dont know if any of this information is relevant to your wife....if you believe there is any common denominator between families with O'Brien's based in England/ Wales , please advise and I am happy to research any avenues that could make a match.....
Kind regards,
Annette

Thank you for your response Annette:
What you say is very mysterious. You seem to have zero connection to Ireland while my wife has zero connection to England or Wales. I hate to say it, but this begins to look like what is called in genealogy a "non-parental or non-paternal" event. DNA does not lie and the two of you are either first cousins, once removed or second cousins.

Perhaps it is best to let sleeping dogs lie. If you wish to pursue the connection further feel free to contact me again.

Best regards

Christopher.

Hi Christopher,
I was thinking the same thing, as DNA is factual indeed......but " infidelity"... or passionate brief encounters? can be lost in the midst of time...... for example my father's mother did have a relationship with a Samuel Finan, ( sounds Irish although he worked in Barnsley and died there In early 70's?, who was listed as a " spouse implied" along with my named Grandfather, Percy Imisson, whose marriage is listed in 1904!,,, G.mother Edith Waite aged 18!,.. so philandering traits Are possibly genetic??, as my father into the 1950's seemingly had a "wandering eye"......, but my mother loyally stood by him, having 4 children to care for!.......
But obviously i do NOT wish to imply that your wife's ancestry is " coloured" in such a way!!...... clearly two world wars and active service could also have played a hand in DNA " travelling".... but I have to accept that the high percentage of " viking" DNA in my family profile probably = indiscretions in the past...........
However if some connection does surface...I will reconnect.....unless as you say just let " sleeping dogs lie".

With Best regards,
Annette

Hello Annette:

The name attributed to the possible father of your father, Samuel Finan, is likely a pseudonym, though indeed it is an Irish name.

I believe that he was actually John Patrick Quinlisk of Cloughjordan, Ireland. He left Ireland at the age of 17 for Yorkshire in 1904, the year that your grandparents were married and I assume the year your father was born. He was still there in 1911 and shown on the census that year as a lodger. But in 1915 he was working as a journalist in Cologne, Germany. The British suspected him of being a spy (the Irish were pretty pally with the Germans during both world wars - my enemy's enemy is my friend sort of thing). I don't know for sure if he was captured by the Brits but he eventually wound up in South Africa and there his descendants are to this day -- with the possible exception of your father and his descendants.

John Patrick Quinlisk was the older brother of my wife's mother, Catherine Mary Aloysius Quinlisk.

The quantity of DNA that you share with my wife is generally considered indicative of a first cousin, once removed relationship. If your father was indeed the son of John Patrick Quinlisk, you would be my wife's first cousin, once removed.

All of this is purely speculative on my part. If it weren't for the DNA evidence I would be embarrassed to step this far out on a very weak limb. But with that evidence supporting such a close relationship, he seems to me to be the best candidate.

Cheers

Christopher
